More Détente

Bruno Manno in The Hill on the idea that Education Secretary nominee Miguel Cardona offers a chance for détente in the education wars. I tend to think that’s right and a real opportunity.

Still, advocates of public charter schools and other reforms that disrupt traditional political power arrangements should also stay attuned to the risk that subsurface policymaking, in particular through the regulatory or guidance process will create opportunities for special interest pressure on charters and other reforms.
