  1. How about a pic. of one of your charter school teachers taking some well deserved time off?

Perhaps they are NOT in your class of public policy intellectuals who occupy the PERMANENT UNION of funding, access, information, and power.

Please tell me about your fisherwoman’s quals. Beside being a bait fisherman, she is a liberal arts major. Perfect for pushing ahead with all of these school reform STEM agendas.

Let’s get it straight. You work very hard at enforcing a caste system for the now useless liberal arts folks from US News highly rated schools.

Just a thought experiment: When you get a solid mathematician from Berkeley, my alma mater, on your side, and not some math math education expert, I will begin to believe you.

Until that time, you are just another lobbyist, revolving door, job for life, unaccountable, political hack.

Want to see a REAL UNION? Just look at DC politics and the ARMY OF HANGERS ON.

I saw them when I served in the Pentagon. Worse than any teacher I ever met. And the dripping scorn from the sycophants to the indolent rich was an informative experience.

There is a very strong negative correlation between the explosion in the ranks of education consultants and the DEMISE OF solid science and mathematics instruction in this nation.

    Care to explain that one?

Perhaps you are too busy “innovating”. Throughout my career of working in very high performance organizations, I never used or heard that word once. I did hear things like, “It did not work.”, “This worked.” , “Let’s try again.” “Let’s scrap that idea.”, “I messed that up.”, “My sailors can handle that.”

None of that “You can’t blame me. I am too busy innovating.”

  2. Now mediocre math teacher does MORE in one day advocating for rigorous math and science instruction than your legion of edu-reform careerists.

You guys make your money by talking about evil unions, and thug teachers.

    It is old. Really old.

Try something else such as, “Intelligent people respond to incentives. They do not respond to future promises of punishment or reward. Rational, self interested people want to be rewarded now, not later. Teachers ARE rational and self interested, and that is good for children. Self-sacrifice and the attendant emotion of low self worth is pure poison for children.

But that is exactly what you want in your charter school teachers. Folks that are either too stupid, or with such low self esteem, that they cannot find something better for themselves. And those are the kind of folks you have teaching the neediest children.

God help you in your illogic. It is beyond belief. Sailors are not treated particularly well, but for all that, the Navy finds a way to keep them happy. Yep, IMMEDIATE REWARD and IMMEDIATE IMPARTIAL FEEDBACK.

You guys simply do NOT get it.

In the Navy it is GIVEN that leadership is first rate, and we REMOVE leadership that even sniffs of indecision or recklessness. But in education what do we have? Legions of unaccountable “moral leaders”, “advocates for children”, and posses of consultants and public policy folks. Not one of them can quantify what they do for children on a daily basis. Not one of them can provide real data that measure their impact on science or math.

But they step forward in their proud hearts to claim some place in the glory of battle. Only in education and politics does this craziness work.

I fear that education leaders and reformers are a classic case of the mediocre and fearful leading the weak.

As of yet there is NO REAL SOLUTION to the problem.

The reason is simple. Future promises or punishments to encourage irrational behavior on the part of people has never worked.

Hey sailor, if you launch yourself from that missile tube I will give a two block eval. There is the entire education debate in a nutshell.

Everyone is busy looking for someone else to engage in the illogical and immoral act of self sacrifice.
