Smart List: 60 People Shaping the Future of K-12 Education
“Through funding and guidance of entrepreneurial organizations, we aim to make sure every child receives an excellent education.”
Right. Sure they do.
Listen, all you wealthy do-gooders (and your sycophants and enablers who are too young or naive to know better than to join TFA): GET OUT OF MY PROFESSION. LEAVE US ALONE. We know what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. You want to helps kids do better in school?
Spend your damn money on health and mental health care for poor families. Advocate for THAT. Give every kid an iPad and home connectivity–for free. No strings attached. Do that and I and many other professionals in education will support you. Right now, you don’t have the support of rank and file teachers or many others who do the real work in real classrooms.
Put up or shut up and go away.
What about Tony Bennett? Is that story yesterday’s news? I don’t think so. The evidence is pretty clear that he boosted the school’s “grade” from a B to an A by throwing out the alegebra scores. “One of the best charter schools” failed to tache its kids algebra. Kind of suggests that the whole charter school thing isn’t the game changer that a lot of people want it to be.
