Childrens’ Books, Is Open Source “Free?”, Plus An Edujob

BW’s Rachael Brown reviews some childrens’ books in The Times.

Also in The Times, another open source announcement on textbooks. But riddle me this: How do you square “free” textbooks with the first sentence of the second paragraph, which is, “Funded by a number of philanthropies, including the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the OpenStax College textbooks…”?  Free to consumers is not the same as free.

The NEA Foundation, attached to but distinct from the NEA itself, is hiring for a Vice President for Public Programs (pdf).  Great gig for a creative minded reform type.  BW works with the NEA Foundation, great team there.
