  1. Some thoughts:

    1) It’s refrshing to hear a politician say something totally honest and on-point: “Some students get a good education, but others do not, and report after report reaches the same conclusion: No matter how much money we throw at the problem, unless the school is fundamentally fixed, we will not get the results in student performance we all deserve.”

    2) That said, is the new trigger law going to approximate a band-aid on a cancer patient? In my state 3% of children attend charter schools–and even when that’s doubled under a new law, almost 19 out of 20 schoolchildren will go to a district school. Are 95% of our students truly getting a good education? Doubtful. What are the chances the parent-trigger will trigger something widespread? I don’t know; I just don’t want to get too excited about what could amount to a boutique solution.
