It’s nice when you get a situation like this because it strips away all pretense — all the nonsense about “due process” and “wrap-around services” — and reveals the core of the union mission: Protect every teacher’s job, regardless of competency.
Yes, teachers’ labor unions exist to protect teachers’ jobs. That’s what labor unions do. In fact, the laws in every state require that labor unions perform this function for the people who belong to them and pay dues. I’m amazed at how many people don’t know this.
