In Washington, it’s looking like contract reform is coming to pass.
In New York City there is a bit of goal post moving going on. Originally, the UFT’s charter school was going to show us that the current teachers’ contract there didn’t create constraints with an adverse impact on quality. But now the school is moving to extended-time. I’m all for that, and I obviously like the idea of flexibility and multiple teachers’ contracts within a city, but it is a change from the original political point this initiative was supposed to make.
