Virtual Debate

NYT’s Dillon has an article out today on the rise of virtual schooling and the ensuing conflicts. As I wrote in The Times a while back, truly “virtual” schools with no brick and mortar component can play an important role for some kids but seem destined to be a pretty marginal part of the education landscape and as with home-schooling fast pace of growth is easily mistaken for size of market share. This ES paper by Bill Tucker looks at virtual learning more generally and there does seem to be some potential there, but it’s more in tandem with and augmenting brick and mortar operations.
