McKinsey Madness!

Interesting comparative article on education from The Economist. Something for almost everyone to pull out to validate their viewpoint so just read the whole thing.

  1. Thank you for posting this link–very interesting stuff! I believe I’ll forward this to my colleagues in our College of Education (which does an excellent job preparing teachers).

  2. A bit naive. Visit the inner-city of any USA city for the real answer. Let me point out that in Singapore the belief is “spare the rod and spoil the child”. Remember the caning incident over gum? All countries mentioned have a more homogeneous population than we do. And, we attempt to educate everyone.
As for who teaches: in our haste to have schools look like the general population many were accepted as teachers just because.

  3. Where is the consideration of the society’s views on the status of educatros? Parental expectations? Education policy specialists touting education policies as the solution to lagging test scores is intellectual incest, plain and simple. What are needed are interdisciplinary studies to tease out what is possible to accomplish in different environments.
