This enormous redfish, estimated to be 30 years old, was caught by the mother of James Willcox of Aspire Public Schools. And, that’s close enough to education for us! More importantly, the fish, known by close associates as “Big Red” has become the unofficial mascot for the Gulf Coast Challenge. New Schools for New Orleans is offering grants to help people incubate successful schools in NOLA (pdf). Even better, if you recommend someone to them who ultimately opens a school, there is a $5K finders fee in it for you. And, if that is not enough, New Schools for New Orleans chieftain Matt Candler is also offering a $10 bonus (that’s ten dollars, no K) for anyone who can locate a Louisiana caught redfish with an educonnection to be the new mascot since, truth be told, Big Red actually hails from near Mobile…
