Your Afternoon

If you follow New Orleans, here’s a call you’ll want to check out tomorrow afternoon. From the invite:

New Orleans Update – National Conference Call on the latest in School Reform in New Orleans

Tuesday March 20, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. Central / 4:00 p.m. Eastern
The call in number is 1.800.868.1837, access code 77927546.

Callers will receive an update on the incredible momentum that is beginning to transform education in New Orleans – and hear about ways they can help.

First of all, you can learn more about (and help enact) rapidly moving legislation in the U.S. Congress to help New Orleans provide substantial financial incentives and housing subsidies to recruit and retain outstanding teachers and principals that work in or move to New Orleans to help build high quality schools for every child. We think this has the potential to set a precedent for future efforts elsewhere.

Callers will also hear directly from the leadership of such non-profit organizations as New Leaders for New Schools, Teach for America, KIPP, New Schools for New Orleans and The New Teacher Project about how you can nominate outstanding people (or apply yourself) for exciting school leadership and teaching roles in New Orleans as part of a rapidly growing community of education reformers.

We’ll explain how teachers (www.teachnola.org), school leaders (www.nlns.org) and entrepreneurs (www.nsno.org) can join the effort.

The call will be on Tuesday March 20, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. Central / 4:00 p.m. Eastern. The call in number is 1.800.868.1837, access code 77927546.
