Here is my take on former Secretary of Education Rod Paige’s new book, from yesterday’s NY Post. Paige sees the teachers’ unions as the root of almost all problems in education. In our recent book Jane Hannaway and I argue instead that they’re often not helpful but are hardly all bad and can’t be fairly blamed for nearly everything that ails schools. Paige’s book is more meat cleaver than scalpel and that’s not helpful either. Chester Finn disagrees here.
