REL Madness

Ed Week’s Viadero turns in a must-read on the regional education labs. It’s a little late on the new competition results but right on the money in terms of the grumbling out around the land and the lay of this particular land. I’m all for the emphasis on rigor but am not sure the labs are the best place to house that and good constituent services make a lot of sense. But, I think there is a more market-based and collaborative way to provide those services, through dedicated state and local funds that could be pooled and/or used to purchase services, for instance, along with some lab infrastructure. Update: That second sentence should not imply that Ed Week didn’t cover the competition, just that it’s old news. They wrote on the results at the time.
