A Watchful Eduwonk Reader…

Pointed out the apples-to-oranges example I cited in this post about McCain and vouchers. The WPost article was about the dearth of NCLB transfer options. My observation remains accurate, as long as I substitute Cleveland as my example, as explained in this editorial I wrote. Appreciate that.

    Mr. Whitmire-

I’m still confused- your editorial doesn’t say anything about Cleveland. In fact, the most interesting thing about the Cleveland voucher program was that it offered twice as much money to public schools as private schools. Mysteriously, none of the lilly-white suburban school districts surrounding “had space” for inner city kids.

If anything, Cleveland shows that it is not a good idea to keep parental choices confined to the public schools.

the library search system failed me. it told me this edit identified cleveland specifically, when in fact it only made the broader point cleveland represents. here’s a better editorial: http://usat-photoweb01.usatoday.us.ad.gannett.com/scripts/foxisapi.dll/wmsql.wm.request?HIT_10338782_2G114RSN72.3
